I'm on another bender - Pop was at the hospital yesterday and picked up his prescriptions
when he came away from the window he mentioned that he had gotten four types of pills when he was expecting to only pick up two. I looked in the bag and found the pharmacy had automatically refilled two old prescriptions. I tried to return them and that was when I found out the state of Washington laws will not allow any returns after the patient leaves the window. Even if it was only to turn around and then turn back. I went online to see what I could do with these pills and found that there is very little to be done. Thirty seven states have instituted some laws to allow for medication reuse, most of them dealing with cancer drugs and almost
consistently across the board only from hospitals in patients and hospice facilities. Billions of
dollars worth of drugs going to waste.
Some
of the pills I'm talking about are -
Tilmisartan/
Micardis 40mg 80 pills sealed (approx $29.00)
(high blood pressure)
Metoprolol 50mg 135 pills (approx $65.00)
(high blood pressure)
Hydrochlorothlazide 12.5mg 90 pills sealed (approx $34.00)
12.5mg 55 pills (approx $20.00)
25mg 90 pills (approx $24.00)
(water pill)
Zocor 40mg 65 pills (approx $247.00)
(high
cholesterol)
Just seems a shame to throw them out, but can't find anywhere to donate them. Can you believe the
Zocor costs, no wonder they all hop around on measuring
cholesterol.
There was a note on one of the sites that I have not verified yet - that the water processing plants do not remove drug waste from gray water before it is released back to the earth. Guess we'll never have a problem with high
cholesterol oceans or rivers.
